TRAVEL BARGAIN ALERT! Yes, the British Museum in London is free of charge. Signs at the entrance request a 5 GBP donation Рabout $7 USD Рbut that is dirt cheap and voluntary.  And it is fabulous! One can easily spend a full day here. What the Louvre is to art, the British Museum is to antiquities.

Check the photos below for a very small sample of some of the themes and displays available.

My favorite areas were the Greek Antiquities where the famous Elgin Marbles were featured.

Another favorite area was the Egyptian display. Lots of mummies. I love mummies. Some of them even unwrapped!

I spent a half-day there and did not see nearly all of the displays at the British Museum.
