Recently completing the ‘One Mile Art Walk’ at the Hilton Anatole in Dallas, TX, I was amazed at both the quality and quantity of the pieces on display.  The guided walk makes a loop thru the Main Lobby, the Tower Lobby and the courtyard. Most of the objects on display have a definite Oriental flavor, but just when you least expect it, you encounter something really off-the-wall, like one of the four propellers of the ocean liner, Lusitania (of World War One fame).. or a section of the Berlin Wall. Below are some of the highlights. Enjoy!

Two almost-life-size elephants adorn the center of the Main Lobby. Each is carved out of a single, whole Banyan tree trunk. They were placed there for the Republican National Convention, held at the Anatole in 1984. I discreetly carved 'Mondale for President' behind one ear and got the hell out of there!

A Democrat must have slipped through security undetected!

This happy camper lurks in the courtyard of the Anatole. He seems to be living every man's dream... stoned, happy, well fed, even has his own set of boobs to play with! We just have to get that bird poop washed off his belly... or maybe it is pasta sauce!

Beautiful lady! Love the golden glow.. probably a spokesperson for a chain of tanning salons.

My favorite image of the entire gallery is the center panel of a tri-panel of Buddhist monks walking.

This stunning bronze of a nude woman sitting among the flowers certainly grabbed my attention. She looked in distress, so I went to the gift shop and bought her a bottle of Malox.

This is why you don't see much of the Berlin Wall in Berlin anymore... as we discovered on our recent trip to Germany. Sections have migrated to places like the lobby of the Anatole hotel in Dallas.

In the courtyard of the Anatole... this family was hogging the stone boat for the whole four days we were there! Kept checking back every now and then to see if it was available for a paddle around the Koi pond...but noooo... inconsiderate morons!

The Sleeping Lady in the Tower Lobby. I was thinking she'd be a whole lot more comfortable on one of those wonderful Hilton Beds by Serta mattresses... wanted to drag ours down for her... but wife wouldn't let me.

Stunned to see this in the courtyard! A little out of character from the other items on display... but interesting none-the-less. It is one of the four propellers from the British Ocean liner 'Lusitania'. In 1915 the ship was torpedoed without warning by a U-boat. One hundred and twenty eight Americans died in the tragedy... a factor in the ultimate decision of America to enter the war against the Germans.

Loved the Jade Room just off the Main Lobby... subdued lighting.. soft music... I swear this lady whispered as I walked by.. "Hi there, handsome! Come back later tonight...alone!" I did.

Nice... but eerie! Her eyes seemed to follow me around the room.

More display cases in the Jade Room... the poor guy in the middle (sealed, air tight) glass case looks like he is holding his breath. Maybe he just farted.

The front entrance to the Hilton Anatole, Dallas, TX. It looks a little to much like a hospital for my taste... but we did exit a bit healthier and happier than when we checked in... due mainly to the very well equipped fitness center, jogging track and outdoor lap pool. And not to forget to mention the fabulous food.

Our accommodations were on the 26th floor of the Tower Lobby building... very spacious... great view!
