The perfect addition to Memphis’ other well-known attractions – Graceland, Beale Street and Sun Studios

I’m reminded of a popular feature on the David Letterman Show called “Will It Float?”. Well, the Bass Pro people are gambling a pyramid of money that their new Bass Pro mega-store and outdoor sportsman themed attraction will ‘float’.

My take after several visits? Judging from grand opening week crowds… it will not only float… but fly, honk, quack, squeal and leap.

However, visually there is a bit of a disconnect.  The building itself is a huge shiny, mirrored pyramid situated on the banks of the Mississippi River. It was originally built by the city of Memphis in 1991 as a 20,000 seat sports and concert venue…  known as the Pyramid Arena.  It has been sitting pretty much empty and unused since 2004..  after the newer, larger FedEx Forum stole it’s thunder.  The inside has now been converted to a rustic, roughhewn outdoors themed resort and sporting goods superstore.
