Candy Store by Candy Dulfer

The daughter of sax legend Hans Dulfer of the Netherlands, Candy founded her own band at age fourteen, has been an international recording artist since age seventeen, headlined the Bottom Line in NYC with her own band at age nineteen… and has toured and/or recorded with Prince, Dave Stewart (the Eurythmics), Van Morrison, Madonna, Beyonce, David Sanborn, Aretha Franklin, Pink Floyd, plus many others.

Candy was one of several headliners for the week long Smooth Jazz Cruise… along with George Benson, David Sanborn, Rick Braun, Marcus Miller, Steve Cole, Paul Taylor, Richard Elliot, Jonathan Butler and Brian Culbertson.¬†We had the privilege of sitting down with Candy mid-cruise for a video interview aboard Holland America’s Westerdam.

Candy describes her own musical background, plus the reasons why jazz artists love living and performing in the Smooth Jazz Cruise environment. She vividly points out the distinctions between performing on the cruise and shoreside performances. This, plus Candy’s very animated observations of the other artists, make this interview sizzle!

Listen to her describe the joy of spending an entire week together with her peers, the stories told backstage and her hilarious description of George Benson’s response to performing on a cruise ship for the first time.
